Time takes time

Updated: Oct 23, 2023

We live in a fast and furious world. From the minute we are born, sometimes even before, someone has our futures all planned out. When we reach Kindergarten, talks have already begun about college and our placement in the "Hurry up" machine begins. My generation has seen the most growth (technologically speaking) of any other previous generation. We have seen such rapid growth in such a short time that one of the (much lesser known) nick-names of my generation is the "Nostalgia generation."

We grew up cooking our food in record time in the microwave, got placed in advanced classes, and skipped a grade or two; some of us even graduated high school with and AA degree!

There is nothing wrong with progress or advancement. We are very fortunate to be able to live in the society we find ourselves in today; things that were great threats to life two-hundred years ago are barely a blip on our radar now. We have access to more information and knowledge in our pockets than humans have ever had in history. In fact, it is entirely possible, and not uncommon, to run a business using nothing but your phone; today we can reach the world with the tap of a screen.

The downside to all this advancement, all this speed is that it all too often robs us of the moments that make up our lives. We are too focused on the next thing or the bigger thing or the better thing to fully realize and comprehend the life that is unfolding right before our eyes in this very moment.

We are not used to waiting and have begun (too much I think) to associate the delay of a dream, a goal, a lifestyle with its death, and, in our rush we loose sight of the possible.

Time takes time. And, I think, goodness takes time. Allow your goals, dreams and ambition to bloom fertilely in the soil that is time, and watch it grow, slowly, powerfully like a mighty tree. Write your book, start your business, get your degree, live YOUR life, but cherish the moments, cherish the days, work deliberately and let time work its magic on you.
