It may seem a bit cliché to start a blog post (my first ever) with such a title, but there it is. As the new year approaches and 2017 comes to a close, I invite you to take some time to reflect, impartially, on what came your way in the last 12 months.
I say impartially because, I think, we are often too hard on ourselves. Instead of looking at your year and thinking, "I didn't achieve this or do that," take time to reflect on what you did do, and how you can better yourself for the coming year.
Instead of asking "Why didn't I do this or achieve that," ask instead, "WHAT did I learn by not accomplishing my goal(s) and HOW can I do better?" The final question I would invite you to ask as you reflect is, "How can I be happy about what I DID achieve?" Was your goal to lose 30 pounds, and you only lost 25? Great! You are only five pounds away from accomplishing your goal and now you know that you can lose 25 pounds!
Go into the new year proud of what you did accomplish and confident that you can achieve even more!
To tie this post back to my title, think of a dream that you have; it can be a long term, short term, or ultimate dream that you have. Really bring it to the forefront of your mind and hold onto it. I believe that the true power of a dream lies not in its completion, but in its gradual and progressive fulfillment.
For me, 2017 was a rather tumultuous year and it was my dream that kept me going; I believe it is our dreams that pull us through our dark days and therein lies their power. The power of a dream is its ability to pull you through. So, regardless of where 2017 brought you, whether it left you fulfilled or you're crawling into 2018 by your fingernails, hold onto your dream. Bring it up, let it burn before you and go forward, start fresh and dig deeper; do not give up on the power of your dream!
